Tegel Foods Limited

When the lease ran out on their existing WAN contract, Tegel was looking for the market leading solution to keep them at the cutting edge of the industry. An on-going relationship with Kordia’s partner Vodafone provided a key stepping stone for Tegel to take on Kordia’s WAN solution, which Kordia perfectly tailored to the poultry producer’s needs.

For years, Tegel had struggled with a lack of visibility in their existing network. New business applications were potentially being impacted with insufficient bandwidth, yet the company had no ability to identify the problem unless extra investment was made in expensive WAN acceleration products. A lack of monitoring on their sites also meant that by the time problems were discovered, it would often be too late to rectify without significant disruption.

Neil Illsley, Infrastructure Manager at Tegel, says they ultimately chose the OnKor solution for its ability to deliver a solution to any site, regardless of the challenges posed by different locations, sizes and data requirements. “We were really impressed with all of Kordia’s engineers who were assigned to the job. Their can-do attitude just made everything so much easier, and the project management team helped ensure the migration went smoothly, with everyone kept in the loop.”

Illsley was also impressed with the unprecedented visibility and control given by the OnKor Portal and application monitoring feature. “The portal has really increased the speed of our response to any issues, and it’s very reassuring to know that Kordia is proactively monitoring the network at all times, and advising us of any network faults or breakdowns immediately.”

“On top of that, application monitoring allows us to identify problem areas with either business processes or how applications are working, and address them so our WAN is performing optimally at all times,” says Illsley.

The prospect of potential outages during a system changeover can be a major headache for many companies, but Kordia came to the rescue by designing and building the new network alongside the existing one, meaning sites could be migrated one by one with minimal pressure to the business.

Since the WAN implementation, bandwidth has doubled overall across all of Tegel’s sites, with the major poultry sites seeing a five-fold bandwidth increase. Costs have also remained stable compared to the previous system, despite the addition of three more sites to the network.
