Freeview

Freeview

For the reception of Freeview and other free-to-view television content on the satellite, the Freeview group propose the use of a set-top box.

This box will meets their baseline performance and specifications (refer to the Freeview group for more details).

These set-top boxes receive and decode the television services, and include the MHEG-5 middleware or API application.

Programme and channel services

Viewers are able to view a listing of all the services available on the satellite platform using this electronic-program-guide (EPG) application, and be able to switch to their desired channel/content from that EPG display.

To facilitate programme and channel navigation, a DVB Service Information (SI) data stream is required to be added to the Satellite content.

The Freeview Group

The Freeview Group will coordinate and manage the construction of the SI on behalf of Freeview broadcasters, therefore broadcasters will also need to work with the Freeview group to ensure that their particular program and content information is provided to Freeview, in the correct format.
